TFNI
- I wasn't crying, Adam: I was working hard, and got loud; I'll show you what I was working-on, in the morning.
You can go back to sleep now; Thank you. I won't wake you again: I'll work quietly.

EVE
- (a few beats)
- Do you have to count the fruits again, Adam?
ADAM
- Mommy says we don't forget to count the fruitage with gratitude every harvest season.
EVE
- (points doll at a mushy)
- Ooh
I don't count that one:- It's mushy
The birds ate it already.
ADAM
- We don't eat the mushy fruit, Eve;- Mommy says we count all, the fruit, the trees make so we know what good we did the trees by tending them.
EVE
- I count only good fruit.
ADAM
- Mommy says we need to know how much more fruit is on the trees we tend, compared to the tree we did not
.
EVE
- Why do you count the mushy fruit?
ADAM
- Mommy says
Eve
The trees grow the fruit they grow which is good
The trees do not grow fruit mushy
The birds do that
Mommy says we count the same fruit on the trees we tend as the tree we do not tend.
EVE
- Why do you count the fruit I am not going to eat?
ADAM
- (a beat)
- Eve, We are not eating any of these fruits until I count them
.
EVE
- How many fruits are on that tree?
ADAM
- A hundred and forty-four;- And that is three-and-a-half times better than the tree I did not tend with water and composted dung and leaf.
EVE
- Is that enough?
ADAM
- Mommy says it is a good amount.
EVE
- Is the fruit ready to eat?
ADAM
- Soon
maybe tomorrow some and next week. I must finish counting these.
EVE
- Okay. Don't let the birds eat them any more before next week:- I'm hungry.
TFNI (OS)
- Adam, Eve: It's time to finish-up and be getting ready for dinner.
ADAM
- (to Eve)
- Be sure to feed my animals before dinner time.
EVE
- (draws Goat away)
- Come-on, Go-at: It's time for you to go-at your dinner.
- She bring Goat to--
- FOREGROUND: TfNi is at the oven.
- Eve gathers animal food from yesterday's-basket
TFNI
- Are you feeding the Go-at?
EVE
- Yes.
- (considers a beat)
- Mommy?
TFNI
- Yes, dear?
EVE
- Why does that tree in the middle of Adam's garden, grow without fruit when he tends it?- It doesn't look broken
.
TFNI
- Eve: Each tree has its own God-known purpose for man: That pine is a tree that lives only and produces seeds to grow more pine trees.
It has some qualities useful for cleaning, too.
- (again)
- Many things grow without fruit, Eve;- And many with very small fruits; And we keep some of each, to remind us to prove that we have Godly work to do
Not everything we do is for feeding man.
EVE
- Okay.
- She returns with Goat and food to--
- MID FOREGROUND WATER: Feeds it, pets it
and other pets
- TfNi near-steps on Adam's clay toy spaceship by the oven.
TFNI
- Adam: I've told you to keep your toy spaceships away from the oil-oven, so we don't step on them.
ADAM
- I did;- Eve took it: You told me to not stop her.
TFNI
- Eve: Did you leave Adam's spaceship near the oil-oven?
EVE
- (frustrated)
- It's just a clay-toy: It doesn't really fly through space.
TFNI
- Eve: Come here.

TFNI

- Can you do this, Eve?
EVE
- (ponders)
- Yes.
TFNI
- Now, How about returning Adam's spaceship, and thanking him for letting you play with it for a while?
EVE
- (picks-up his spaceship)
- Okay, Mommy.

- Eve brings a wooden step-stool and her body-apron to TfNi
EVE
- Yes.
- And sets it
and steps-up
TfNi ties her apron
TFNI
- (positions stirrer)
- Nothing should ever become over-done:- Keep stirring the whole pot while it is over the stove-fire,- and stir into the corners, so that the whole cooks evenly.
EVE
- (cooperates, stirring)
- How much is over-done?
TFNI
- Food is cooked only so that it yields quickly to man's desire: Never waste your resources cooking.
EVE
- What's a resource?
TFNI
- What God has already provided, and men have located and gathered.
EVE
- So, the fire-oil and sticks in the oven are resources
and the fish. Is clay a resource?- It's everywhere.
TFNI
- Not all clay is good for making pots, so, yes, pot-clay is:-- A resource must be recognized, too.
EVE
- Is fire a resource?
TFNI
- We use it, -and it requires our resources,- but it has no place but what we give it
so we call it a technique, and we must apply our techniques to use our resources efficiently and not waste anything.
EVE
- Okay. How much fire do we apply to cook dinner?
TFNI
- We control the oven-fire by placing more or less oil-and-stick-resource in it
and we adjust the oven-air-vent to control how well it burns:- We don't want hot smoke from the oven: That's not fiery hot and it's not fully burned:- so it will waste our resource sticks and oil to make smoke.
EVE
- Why doesn't the sunlight-beam cook our food for us? It's brighter than this hot oven-fire, and it doesn't smoke.
TFNI
- The chemistry of cooking is heat, not light, and the sun is so far away from the Earth that it cannot give us much heat but what warms our day. If we could gather more sunlight to focus on our pot we could cook, but we'd also have to stir it because the light stops at the surface of the pot, and does not cook inside
.
EVE
- (pondering)
- Is the sunlight-beam a resource? It has a place it comes-from. How can we gather it?
TFNI
- Yes, sunlight is a resource; But it's not easy to gather: We'd need a reflector like the surface of the water in the river-pools where you see your face looking back at you.

- (00:51 ahh)
ADAM
- About a month, and it was getting brighter than all the other stars: But it doesn't move like a planet or comet.
EVE
- What is it, Mommy?
TFNI
- It's a supernova, Eve:- A star that was, ten times bigger than our sun, burning ten-thousand times faster and hotter, than our sun:- Then it burst-open with the brilliance of ten, billion, suns.
EVE
- (ponders 2 beats)
- How much is a billion?
ADAM
- A huge, whole galaxy of stars
!
- (01:31 low vowels)
TFNI
- Remember how we practiced counting to a thousand by counting ten tens of ten?!
EVE
- Yes.
TFNI
- If we practice counting to a thousand, again and again until we've practiced a thousand times, we've counted a thousand thousands, which is a million.
Then, counting to a billion is doing all that, as many times practiced again
.

ADAM

EVE

ADAM

EVE

- See

TFNI

- And, What is this talk about snakes?
EVE
- Adam doesn't believe me!
TFNI
- Doesn't believe you about what, Eve?
EVE
- That the snake answered me when I spoke to it.
TFNI
- What did you tell the snake?
- (02:39 quieter)
EVE
- I told it
I spoke the truth, to the snake: like you said I must.
TFNI
- The truth about what, dear?
EVE
- That God created it to understand His untrembling resolve.
TFNI
- What was the snake doing, Eve?
EVE
- (imitates shivers)
- It was, shivering, and jerking about
It was very afraid.
TFNI
- And what did the snake answer you?
- (03:00 oomph, end -out-)
EVE
- It's voice informed my thought: The broader the idea, the calmer is the understanding
Mommy,--
- (whimpers again)
- What does that mean?
TFNI
- (ponders)
- It means, Eve: You can cherish the idea of loving good.
ADAM
- Mommy: Eve also took some of the fruit from the forbidden tree.
TFNI
- (to Adam)
- And did you eat some of it?
ADAM
- She gave it to me: She said it was good fruit.
TFNI
- (begins lecture-review)
- Adam, We discussed this thoroughly: You must eat only of the fruit of your own tending: You must prove to yourself that tree-tending is good: that the trees you tend make more fruit than the untended tree; Never eat of the tree of laziness knowing both good times and evil,-- though that is right in the midst of your own tending:- That tree is there to show you that a tree already grows by itself, and you must tend, your, trees, to improve their yield: lest you die in the evil times
. You do not eat seeds, like the bird in the tree of life without fruitage,- And you can't eat Life itself, like the Creator.
You cannot have abstract immortality, Adam: You must live
now first completely: And, you must teach your children, to prove for themselves
. I cannot forever pick for you the fruits of Truth:- I can give you the seeds of the garden of Truth, And you must plant, nurture, and tend, forever and your children after you: Do you understand me, Adam
?!
ADAM
- Yes, Mommy.
TFNI
- (a beat, stern)
- Now you know the fruit tastes the same
- Adam looks placidly admissive, as the truth sinks in
TFNI
- (a beat, realistic)
- And you also know the difference between the good way to tend the fruit, and the evil way
- (a beat, to Eve)
- Eve: How did you know it was good fruit?
EVE
- It looks good, the same as from the other trees; And it tasted good.
TFNI
- But, dear one, Obedience is also good, and much more for you to do: The fruit is obedient to its tree, and yields to Adam's tending
EVE
- (cries)
- Yes, Mommy: I'm sorry.
TFNI
- You'll want to keep your obedience forever, after you've eaten.
- (a beat, relents a bit)
- I'll show you how to make clothes of fish skins
